The post-IDFA attribution playbook every CMO needs in 2025

SKAdNetwork 4, AEM, MMM and incrementality β€” how to combine them into a single source of truth without losing your sanity.

It has been four years since Apple’s App Tracking Transparency upended mobile measurement, and the industry has finally moved past denial. The teams winning today are not the ones with the cleverest workaround β€” they are the ones who have rebuilt their measurement stack around three complementary signals: deterministic conversions where consented, probabilistic signals through SKAdNetwork 4 and Aggregated Event Measurement, and a top-down marketing-mix model that anchors everything else.

The trap most growth teams fall into is treating these signals as competitors rather than complements. Your MMP will tell you one number, your MMM another, and your finance team a third. The job of a modern measurement function is not to pick a winner β€” it is to build a hierarchy of trust.

We recommend starting with weekly incrementality holdouts as the ground truth. Once you know the true marginal lift of each channel, you can recalibrate your MMP-attributed conversions and validate your MMM. Anything that disagrees with a clean holdout should be treated as suspect.

The second pillar is creative-level signal. SKAN 4 finally gives us coarse and fine conversion values, plus three measurement windows. Used well, they let you optimise creative within a campaign, not just budget across campaigns. We have seen teams unlock 20-30% efficiency simply by mapping creative IDs to conversion values intelligently.

Finally, lean into server-side. Conversions API on Meta, Enhanced Conversions on Google, and CAPI on TikTok are no longer optional. Brands that have invested in clean server-side pipes are seeing 8-15% match rate uplift versus pixel-only setups, which compounds across every campaign you run.
